9 picolitre droplet

The 9 picolitre droplet is prerequisite for fine art printing. It allows ultra-exacting photo print work with fine colour gradations. Complex subjects that require uniform expanses of colour and reproduction of fine detail are superbly rendered, with pin-sharp typography even in the smallest font sizes.

Offset is no longer essential for fine art printing. An equivalent quality level is quite easily attainable with swissQprint large format printers: simply rip the print file as a
fine art graphic and submit it to Amber, the printer’s output software. It will automatically switch to the 9 picolitre droplet size, for results with a visual print resolution up to 2160 dpi.

Of course, the same print file could also be printed with the usual 14 picolitre droplet. Choosing this standard droplet size still gives the optimum balance between quality and efficiency. The prepress process is identical in either case; an operator need only select which print mode to use.

9 pl droplets (right) create even sharper edges and finer details than the 14 pl standard (left).

A smaller droplet combined with high resolution increases the colour gamut significantly.
This produces the smoothest gradients and uniform expanses of colour.

And another thing: a calibrated swissQprint machine complies with the Fogra PSD (Process Standard Digital) at both 14 and 9 picolitre droplet sizes. That means high printing quality with consistent reproducibility – precisely what is needed to turn demanding end customers into loyal regulars.
