Continuous flatbed thanks to automatic panel transport
Impala and Oryx feature a novel transport method for advancing oversize media over the printing table and positioning it in exact register with a redefined zero origin. The new technique is more efficient and even more precise than the conventional method employed in swissQprint’s optional hybrid feed principle. Either approach is capable of printing sizes up to an impressive 2.5 x 4 metres. And with the new transport system, printers who do not otherwise use rolled media can economise by not investing in the roll option.
Primer for direct printing onto glass
Glass and metal are widely used materials for interior decoration and also in product design. Moreover, there is growing demand for individualised designs. So craftsmen and graphics businesses face a challenge: how to realise their customers’ high-flying artwork as economically as possible. Against this background, the swissQprint developers are opening doors with their special primer: right after application to the surface, the design proper can be overprinted using the standard inkjet inks. The primer and the printed design bond permanently to the substrate, without any need for post-treatment such as baking or fixing.
Next to the standard CMYK, there are an additional five channels on Impala, 4 on Oryx, one of which can optionally be set up to use the primer. That makes it easy for printers to extend their service offering, which can range from applications in furniture, exhibition stand construction, shop fitting and interior work, through restaurant/catering facilities and glass partition walls, to gaming machines and designer mirrors.
In addition to primer, the additional channels can also accommodate varnishes, spot colours, white or light ink shades. Photographers, for example, appreciate a light black for printing monochrome images with true photographic depth and quality. Light cyan/light magenta are the preferred choices for highest-quality rendering of fine skin tones and areas of homogenous colour. Consequently, both Oryx and Impala stand out not only for their strong versatility, but high process stability as well.
swissQprint is a young Swiss company that is stirring up the marketplace with new developments and refinements to existing ones. swissQprint is making strides to becoming a driver of innovation in its specialist niche of inkjet technology.

swissQprint quickly made a name for itself following the launch of its ingenious Oryx hybrid inkjet system in 2008. This high-end printing machine can cope with virtually every challenge, from conventional panels and roll stock with widely differing properties through to oversize media measuring 2.5 x 4 meters. The system also offers remarkable precision − and yet the space it requires is relatively modest.
swissQprint premiered a new model at the 2010 Fespa: the Multitalent Impala, with a CMYK standard that can be extended by up to five additional colour channels. Thanks to special inks with exceptional adhesive properties, inkjet printing is even possible on aluminium and glass. So with one single machine, printing professionals can now offer a vast range of services that will put them well ahead of the competition. And last but not least: the Impala holds the record for printing speed in its category, making it a byword for cost-effective operation.
Both systems are convincingly versatile, robust and reliable. swissQprint's satisfied customers include specialist graphic firms as well as industrial corporations. The word has spread around: printing machines from swissQprint are an investment that very quickly pays dividends.

The new Impala is a multitalented premium inkjet flatbed machine. Here, everything is possible: from regular panels, through all kinds of rolled media, to formats as large as 2.5 x 4 metres. And this with the highest precision, as well as comparatively modest space requirements. The standard CMYK inks can be supplemented by as many as five additional colour channels, making a total of nine. That enables further possibilities, like finishing with effect lacquers.
But there are even bigger surprises. On the one hand, even glass and aluminium are now inkjet printable: as an option, Impala can operate with special inks that have extraordinary adhesive properties. On the other hand, visitors to the stand were astonished by just how fast this new system prints.
Impala beats every hitherto existing productivity benchmark in its class.
Impala delivers Swiss quality at an extremely attractive price/performance ratio. To the extent that some visitors to the stand placed an order on the spot.

77 square metres per hour is its latest accomplishment – double its previous maximum performance. Developed and built in Switzerland, Oryx opens the way to generating high value – by design. From the outset of development, swissQprint engineers put special emphasis on efficient working procedures. Resetting the machine between two different jobs, for instance, is done in a flash. And once jobs are set up, the system gets down to work reliably and unsupervised. System optimisation is an ongoing process. Instead of three, there are now four productivity levels to choose from: 12 m2/h for ultimate printing quality, crisp and clean production mode at 18 m2/h, 38 m2/h in standard draft mode, plus a new, super-fast 77 m2/h “overdrive” mode that still produces good-looking results. Oryx prints onto everything from the usual rigid substrates and acrylic plastic, through continuous materials, to oversized media – with single-drop precision and impressive registration accuracy. This new level of speed of course comes as standard with new systems. Existing customers are entitled to a free software update. Opting for this high-end inkjet system not only brings a steady competitive edge in quality, but in productivity as well.

The Oryx precision printing system has been a success story ever since it arrived on the market in July 2008. Designed from the ground up, developed and manufactured in Switzerland, it initially found buyers in the home market and in all of the adjoining countries. Meanwhile, Oryx is also generating satisfaction among dealers and users everywhere from the Benelux countries to Spain, in Greece, Poland and Scandinavia, and the Baltic states.
With its product swissQprint became established as a quality brand name in Europe in only a short time; now the company is venturing to the other side of the Atlantic. WP Digital, part of WIFAG-Polytype Holding, is right now marketing Oryx in North America. This new partner has a smooth-running service and distribution network. Customers value the dependable support they receive, along with thoroughgoing advice based on longstanding experience with large-format printing equipment. Trade show presences planned for the coming year include ISA USA, SGIA USA and Glass Build USA.
Both companies are confident that Oryx will buck the economic crisis in this new market, too. Asked for their recipe for success, they reply that for one thing, cost effectiveness provides a decisive advantage: setting up a job takes just five minutes, then the printing machine gets down to work with total reliability. Versatility is another important attribute: the basic version with its robust printing table is mainly used for rigid media, but extended with the roll option it can also print onto blueprint vellum, paper, fabric and other continuous materials. As a third option there are roll tables that allow printing outsize formats as large as 2.5 x 4 m while requiring a minimum of space, thanks to a clever feeding mechanism. Furthermore, Oryx provides a varnish and white ink option in addition to the standard colours. Buyers of the Oryx basic model are thus investing in the future, because the machine can be readily expanded according to needs. Last but not least, point out the manufacturer and dealers, there is the convincing case made by the machine’s quality: the inkjet system prints with the same high precision onto rigid panels, roll material and oversized media alike. It even handles double-sided printing with remarkable registration accuracy.
The Oryx hybrid inkjet system bears the unmistakable signature of experienced developers who know just what professionals expect of a high-end printing machine: namely a solution that works in everyday practice, made outstanding by dependable Swiss precision and quality.
